Ian Morbey is currently producing new track using Ableton Live, a system that is used for the laptop. It’s such a great tool that you can use in the studio, home or even a club set. House music residents Jerry Frempong & Ian Morbey were supported by Sankeys (Manchester’s top deep house and techno club) Alex McCulloch and Danny Daw. Both of whom rocked the club with their sets playing the most up front deep underground house music. The crowd were certainly entertained by all the DJs and acts, it most certainly seems that the house music scene in London is still positive and lively.

Partner in rhyme, Ian Morbey and myself will be taking control on the sound system in the Basement at Plan B. We’ll also be celebrating the fact that our promotions company and label, Pret A Ecouter Music has been going strong for 3 years.

Other DJs on the night will include Danny Daw & Alex McCulloch. We’ll be spinning an array of quality music in the form of motown, disco, jazz, rare groove and of course all things house.

Our good friends, Trevor Fung and Alan AKA (Higher Ground) will be hosting Plan B’s main room and we hope to have a big surprise DJ for you to enjoy (watch this space).

So get your dancin’ shoes on, get hyped and get ready for a good night of fun, frolics, jokes and… oh… some fu**ing good music too from some brilliant DJs. Expect to hear house music tracks from giant labels such as Defected Records, Brownswood, Yoruba, Motown, Masters at Work, Acid Traxx, and lots lots more!

I arrived at the club just after 1am, and with David Morales due to start his set at 2.30am, I was able to enjoy a good dance to the sounds of Defected Records’ head honcho, Simon Dunmore. Mr Defected Records certainly dropped a few nice tribal and soulful gems, a lot of tracks dropped were relatively but were certainly rocking the Ministry of Sound system.

After getting my pass for the Ministry of Sound DJ booth in the Box, Morales had already begun his spectacle and brilliance for what he is known for. Kicking off with classics from the likes of Jamiroqaui and Mariah Carey it was clearly evident that he had the whole Ministry of Sound dancefloor eating out of his hand! Prior to this set I had only seen Morales spin up Back II Basics (Leeds) another infamous and influential house music night run by Dave Beer.

So who really thinks that house music is on the decline? After what I have witnessed at Ministry of Sound over the past two weekends it’s clearly evident that house music is very much alive and healthy and here to stay!!! With a wealth and abundance of great records being produced by top producers, 2008 certainly promises to be a land mark year highlighting house music’s 20 Years of House Music celebration.

As we reminisce on a phenomenal 2007, 2008 most definitely promises to be hugely inspirational one! Ian and I saw the new year in the best style as we were asked to play alongside house music legends Trevor Fung, Alan AKA and Danny Rampling at South London’s best underground venue, Plan B. The night was absolutely rocking from start until finish, we enjoyed it so much that we will now be hosting our 3rd Anniversary Dance Party for Pret at Plan B on Saturday 23rd February 2008 – BE THERE!

I had the pleasure of going down to London’s original house venue, Ministry of Sound. The Soul Heaven crew were putting on a good show with the legends that are Master at Work Little Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzales. My good pal Thomas Breslin hooked us up to get in the booth and see the Masters get busy, and by gosh they were amazing! Thanks Tom! It was a great night at Ministry of Sound, the crowd were loving the good vibes all night long until the early hours of Sunday morning. Neil Pierce, Aaron Ross and Phil Asher also did a good job rocking the crowd getting them warmed up for The Masters at Work.

I’ll be heading back to Ministry of Sound on February 2nd with Danny Rampling and Ben Brophy to check out New York superstar DJ, David Morales. On sunday we’ll catch up with David to ask him a few questions about the house music scene and where it’s going, should be a good one. I’ll let you all know how that goes.

It seems that as we enter the 20th anniversary of dance music, the music scene in London is still very much healthy at not at all on the decline. Despite falls in vinyl sales and the increase usage of mp3 downloads, Ableton, Serato and CDs, the vibe is still very much alive. We can’t wait to get the party underway as we’ve invited Sankey’s resident and up and coming producer Alex Shafunkers to come and support, plus our very own Danny Daws will be on the case laying down the grooves! Some of you may know that I’m also very passionate about personal development and growth. Some of you may have set up some goals this year but may have a little trouble of how to achieve those goals. Here is a quick tip on goal setting that Ian and I use all the time and always proves to help us in the right direction.

GOAL SETTING:

Unlike setting a new years resolution, business people are keen on setting goals in order to achieve success.

1) WRITE down your list of goals (These are not just material goals, think of your relationships, health, financial etc)

2) WRITE a date, when you want to this happen

3) WRITE down ‘WHY’ you want these goals. The reasons WHY are very important.

4) PLACE this list somewhere that you can see and review daily.

Don’t worry about HOW you will achieve your goals, once you have listed them you will become more conscious to what you want to achieve and you will take ACTION.

This skill must be repeated, we are all creatures of habit, so we must repeat this skill over and over for this to become a habit and part of our lives.

I’m currently reading a book called ‘Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill’. Let me tell you that this book has certainly changed my life in terms of how to do business and I seriously recommend it to anyone. If you want to get a copy click this link HERE
